Bound to Shadow

Traveling on a block of crystal, all souls must journey to the triple darkness of a mother’s womb. Holding a golden pearl, they arrive at the pearlescent Crystal Plane to find the place assigned to them.

Stars wheel in the night sky as souls endlessly descend onto the softly glowing plane to merge their crystal into it. Their golden pearls absorb the light and turn pitch black. They emit shadow that reduces the illusion of the physical world and reveals the way back to God.

Then in an instant, the souls connect to a body and leave the crystal block behind.

One soul was given the title of Mihna. He hovered over the crystal plane, while his fellow souls descended. Scenes of wealth and power played on the surface of his golden pearl, mesmerizing him. He wanted all of it, and refused the shadow that would lead him away from it.

Mihna asked God if he could be born unbound to shadow and make his own way. God approved and Mihna merged his crystal, while keeping his golden pearl.

In that life everything he created consumed itself, rotted and caused chaos. On his deathbed, he realized he needed the ability to veil the world’s temptations. His soul returned to God and asked to be bound to shadow before being reborn.

God rejected his request to punish him for his ego, and sent him to the crystal plane in shame.

What Mihna saw there sent a chill through him.

The plane shattered in a spiderweb pattern originating from his assigned spot from his last journey. Its light had dimmed. For souls who connected to broken pieces, gold peeked through the shadow of their pearls. They would suffer greater temptation and disconnection to each other due to Mihna’s decision.

The Plane pulled him into another unbroken region against his will. Though mesmerized by his pearl, he was determined to correct his mistake. But the plane will keep shattering until the world unites and banishes Mihna.

The pieces will become whole again until he returns.
